VNA To Host 24th Annual Art & Soup Event

March 18, 2021 | VNA Staff | Press Releases, Shelter Nursing

For more than two decades, Visiting Nurse Association (VNA) has been instrumental in caring for individuals and families at local homeless and domestic violence shelters. This year, VNA will hold its 24th annual Art & Soup event to raise funds for this essential program, providing men, women and children experiencing homelessness access to healthcare, social services and community resources to meet their needs.

“There has never been a more important time for VNA nurses to be in local shelters,” said James Summerfelt, VNA President & CEO. “Not only have VNA nurses been in our shelters for years, but they have also been on the frontlines of the pandemic, bravely caring for COVID-19 positive shelter patients and educating shelter staff and guests on infection control.”

Art & Soup Details

Acknowledging the importance of continued COVID-19 safety, 2021’s Art & Soup will be a virtual event spanning multiple days. April 12-18, community members can support this great cause while participating in online art sales and silent auction. Amazing local restaurants remain involved this year through an innovative “Soup Passport.”

Art Sales and Silent Auction – April 12-17: Art sales and silent auction will be an interactive and engaging online event, which will include interviews with artists, chefs and shelter nurses. Local artists will be selling one-of-a-kind artwork, with 50% of their sales going toward the VNA shelter nursing program.

Soup Samplers – April 18, 1-5 p.m.: A drive-thru celebration event will feature music provided by Boomer Radio, entertainment and to-go soup samplers, as well as the opportunity to pick up any purchased auction items.

Soup Passport – April 18-Oct. 31: Every ticket purchase includes a Soup Passport, which entitles an individual to a free cup of soup at each participating restaurant.

VNA’s shelter nursing program is 100% community funded. The public is invited to join us at this year’s Art & Soup event to ensure a VNA nurse is in every Omaha and Council Bluffs domestic violence and homeless shelter. In addition to supporting healthcare for shelter clients, this event is a great way to support local artists and restaurants who have struggled during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Year after year, Omaha area chefs consistently nourish Art & Soup with their amazing generosity,” said Brian O’Malley, Art & Soup Restaurant Committee Co-Chair/Metro Community College Associate Dean, Culinary Arts, Hospitality and Horticulture. “I am honored to be a small part of this amazing event.”
