Meet Our Team: Danielle Lamm
What do you find rewarding about your job as an OT Care Team Coordinator?
The most rewarding part about working at VNA is feeling like I make a difference in the lives of my patients. I make their lives better in their own home. It’s one thing to help in a clinic/hospital and show them how to do things, then send them home and hope they are alright. But with VNA, if they have trouble in the home, I can help them in a real-life situation in their own environment.
Why did you choose this career field?
I always liked the idea of therapy but wanted something different than physical therapy. I did some research and liked the holistic approach of occupational therapy. We look at how every part of the body has to come together to get dressed, make a meal or take a shower. These are things most people take for granted every day until they can’t do it on their own.
Why have you continued to work at VNA?
I get attached to my patients, and some of them get attached to me as well! Another reason is the flexibility. As a mom with a young child, it is great to be able to set my schedule for what works for my family.
What’s something that sticks out to you in your career at VNA?
A few patients have stuck with me in the 2.5 years I’ve been with VNA. One, in particular, is a patient that I ended up working with for 14 months, which is rare in the therapy home health world, but through some wild circumstances, it was what was needed. This patient went from needing assistance for everything to being independent again! It was great to see all the hard work from the team (including the patient) finally pay off in the end.
