Let’s Talk About Death: Helping Individuals and Families Facing End of Life

Thursday, May 17, 5:30 – 7 p.m. at Urban Abbey, 1026 Jackson St., Omaha, NE

Purpose: This presentation will address the often difficult topic of death. Presenters will discuss roles, assessments, resources, and opportunities for collaboration for professionals across a holistic span of caregiving (physical, emotional, spiritual, cognitive, and relational).

The participant will be able to:

1. Describe the role of the professional in providing quality end-of-life care for patients and families across the lifespan.
2. Identify the need for collaboration with interdisciplinary team members while implementing one’s individual role in the end-of-life process.
3. Recognize changes in population demographics, healthcare economics, and service delivery that necessitate improved professional preparation for end-of-life care.
4. Describe the philosophy and principles of hospice care that can be integrated across settings to affect quality care at the end of life.
5. Discuss aspects of assessing physiological, psychological, spiritual, and social domains of quality of life for patients and families facing a life-threatening illness or event.

Registration is required to attend. 1.5 contact hours are available for $5 to nurses and social workers or free to attend if not pursuing contact hours.
