The Faces of Art & Soup

We are proud to partner with local artists and restaurants throughout our community to make Art & Soup a success. Learn more about our 24th annual Art & Soup event through the lens of our featured artists, restaurants and more!

Bart works in various mediums such as sculpture, painting, printmaking, ceramics, illustration and photography. We are excited to welcome him to his first-ever Art & Soup event!

Katrina Methot-Swanson

Katrina’s focus is oil on canvas. Through this medium, she brings photography to life in new ways. Katrina participates in Art & Soup so she can give back to the community.

John Dennison

John has been a potter for the last 50+ years and loves his craft. He makes both functional clay pieces as well as decorative works of art. This is his second year participating in Art & Soup.

Jeff Koterba

Editorial cartoonist Jeff Koterba, whose work regularly appears in major U.S. newspapers including The New York Times, USA Today and the Washington Post, created an original cartoon to benefit VNA’s Art & Soup Fundraiser. 100% of sales go directly to the Shelter Nursing Program. Two high-quality prints are available for purchase. As a bonus, Jeff created this video that highlights this great cartoon’s creative process.

Cédric Fichepain

Cédric is the owner and certified executive chef at Le Voltaire in Omaha. For ten years, Cédric helped with VNA’s Cooking Matters program, and we are overjoyed to have Le Voltaire as a Soup Passport participant!

Jared is the chef and owner of Timber Wood Fire Bistro and Railcar in Omaha. This is Jared’s first year participating in Art & Soup. He is excited to participate in the Art & Soup Passport and get people back to supporting local restaurants.

Gladys Harrison

Gladys is the owner of Big Mama’s Kitchen and Catering. Her mother was cared for by VNA’s hospice nurses during her time of need, and, ever since, Gladys has wanted to show her support for VNA. Enjoy Big Mama’s Hoppin’ John with Ancient Grains soup in our April 18 sampler pack!

Brian O’Malley

Brian is the associate dean of culinary arts at Metropolitan Community College (MCC). MCC has assisted VNA with Art & Soup for as long as Brian can remember, and he has been proud to take part in this event for the last 16 years.

Candace Gregory

She gets to see Nurse Ann and Nurse Amber’s work firsthand and the difference their care has on the lives of the individuals at Open Door Mission. We are proud to work with Candace and Open Door Mission to provide quality care to those in need!

Harris Frankel

Harris Frankel is the Chief Medical Officer at Nebraska Medicine. We are proud to have Harris as a board member and continue to foster VNA’s long-standing relationship with Nebraska Medicine. We cannot thank them enough for their Empowering sponsorship during our 2021 Art & Soup event.

Thank You for Changing Lives

This single event makes a year-long impact.

For people experiencing homelessness, quality healthcare is difficult to access. We make sure that our patients not only get the care they deserve but that they’re connected to vital, life-changing community resources. Each VNA nurse is their bridge to a system of support.

Meet Our Shelter Nursing Team

Lesa Edmundson

“Clients come in at their lowest, and we all work as a team to get them built up. Better healthcare helps people feel better, have more self-esteem and blossom.”

Amber VanKirk

“The pandemic has definitely challenged us as shelter nurses, but our role remains the same: being consistently in the shelters and available to clients and their needs.”

Ann Hatting

“Many people who are at shelters to be in the treatment program discover that they have more health conditions than they thought they did because they’d been covering it up for years. We help them sort through it all. “

Tracy Yandell

“The greatest need is to help our clients learn how to care for themselves, know that they are important and that we’re here to help them. We want to show them that there are people who care about them.”

Kris Stapp

When a nurse take the time to do an assessment, it’s amazing what clients will share with us. Often times, health is a really critical piece, and the relationship with homelessness and health is huge.”
