Information Regarding VNA’s Transition of Home Health and Hospice Operations to Amedisys

Who We Are

For 125 years, VNA has delivered community-based care that provides peace of mind, quality of life and independence. We ensure expert care is available to all in the community.

On July 1, 2021, VNA transitioned Home Health and Hospice operations to Amedisys, Inc., a national leader in home health, hospice and personal care, so that we can refocus on our historic mission of providing community-based care to those without resources. Under the terms of the agreement, Home Health and Hospice services will be provided by Amedisys Home Health and AseraCare Hospice, an Amedisys Company.

This allows us to strengthen and expand our trusted community benefit services, including:

  • Shelter Nursing
  • Parenting Support
  • Physician-Ordered Maternal-Infant Home Visitation
  • Flu and Immunization
  • School Health
  • ENOA contract for Home Health Aide personal care and homemaker services
  • Easterseals Nebraska: Camp, AgrAbility, workforce development, affordable loan programs
  • VNA Infusion Pharmacy

How We Operate

The transition with Amedisys impacts the way VNA operates and raises funds to provide care to our community. VNA will provide care to all who need it through:

  • The Endowment Fund: A Board restricted endowment fund will be available to cover a portion of VNA and Easterseals Nebraska (ESN) administrative and operational costs, which gives VNA sustainability over the long term.
  • Contributing Revenue: VNA’s Infusion Pharmacy, events like Art & Soup and flu clinics generate annual revenue. All contributing revenue is reinvested into VNA and ESN programs.
  • Community Support: Our programming is driven by the generosity of this community, including fundraising events, grants and the support of donors, to continue providing meaningful care to those who depend on us. Community support is responsible for the majority of funding for VNA and ESN programs.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why did VNA seek out Amedisys?

Amedisys is a leading healthcare at home company delivering personalized home health, hospice and personal care across 39 states and the District of Columbia. With approximately 21,000 employees in 514 care centers, Amedisys shares VNA’s commitment to quality, compassionate patient care.

By continuing VNA Home Health and Hospice care operations, Amedisys will provide additional scale and resources that will expand the opportunities to care for more patients and expand Home Health and Hospice services to more communities across Nebraska and Iowa.

What does this transition mean for current clients?

Current VNA clients who utilize insurance for Home Health and Hospice care will transition, if they choose to do so, to Amedisys — and will continue to receive excellent care from the nurses they already know.

Who will VNA accept as clients/patients going forward?

VNA will care for those who are without resources — the growing number of individuals and families who are marginalized and could otherwise not access care.

How will employees be impacted?

People are at the heart of everything we do and our greatest asset, and the same is true at Amedisys. No jobs are immediately impacted. Our combined priority will continue to focus on providing the very best home health and hospice care to patients and their families. This means doing our best to retain as many of our caregivers and colleagues as possible to continue providing the exceptional care for which VNA is known.

Employees have had the opportunity to discuss the transition via Best Care EAP counselors and weekly updates from both the VNA and Amedisys team.

Under which brand(s) will Amedisys Home Health and Hospice operate in Nebraska and Iowa?

Nebraska is a new market for Amedisys Home Health and will operate under that name. Amedisys Hospice already has a presence in Nebraska and Iowa, operating under AseraCare Hospice, an Amedisys Company, which will continue after the transaction is complete. We are committed to making this transition of care as seamless as possible for our patients.

Our Path Forward

VNA and ESN’s next chapter will include new collaborative partnerships, programs and business development to reach even more people in need, all while continuing to be a trusted, expert resource to those we serve.

It is an honor to care for our community. Thank you for your support.
