Visiting Nurse Association Partners with the State of Nebraska to Expand COVID-19 Testing
Visiting Nurse Association (VNA) is announcing a partnership with the State of Nebraska to provide free COVID-19 testing to eligible residents. Drive-thru testing will begin on Wednesday, August 5 and take place in the VNA parking lot, 12565 West Center Road, from 8 a.m. – noon.
Beginning the week of August 10, testing will take place every Tuesday and Wednesday from 8 a.m. – noon. Residents of Nebraska must take an online assessment through the TestNebraska portal, and if eligible will receive an appointment to get their free test at VNA.
“The community has been asking for additional COVID test sites,” said James Summerfelt, VNA President and CEO. “VNA brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in caring for the sick and we are proud to help our community during this time of need.”
VNA has been caring for COVID patients since March, and is one of the only post-acute care providers in Omaha and Council Bluffs accepting COVID positive patients into home healthcare. “We are ideally suited to reduce the burden on hospitals and medical centers as they discharge patients from hospital to home,” said Summerfelt. “Historically, VNA stepped up to treat those impacted by the Polio Epidemic, Spanish Influenza, HIV/AIDS, and H1N1. Today, we bring unmatched expertise in providing home healthcare, hospice, and supportive services to those who are socially isolated during COVID-19.”
The testing site at VNA is the farthest west testing site to date that is available in Omaha. The Nebraska National Guard has teamed with VNA to train staff on proper testing procedures and policies.
