An Update from Our CEO on COVID-19

March 17, 2020 | VNA Staff | General

As each day brings new levels of uncertainty regarding COVID-19 (Coronavirus), you can count on VNA to be a steady presence, a resource for information and an expert provider for your healthcare needs.

VNA has been the Omaha community’s expert, in-home healthcare provider for 124 years, treating people impacted by diseases such as polio, Spanish Influenza and H1N1. We have activated a plan that prioritizes the safety of our patients and staff. VNA’s infection specialist is in continual contact with federal, state and local agencies, including the CDC and other health organizations.

VNA employees are well-trained in infection prevention to keep the community safe. We will continue to provide the services our clients need to stay healthy and safe in the comfort of their own home. At this time, VNA staff members are wearing masks during home visits and we are very thankful for our recent N95 mask donation from McNeil Company (pictured below is McNeil Company Superintendent Kelly Jo Nutter delivering masks to VNA).

We recognize the importance of social distancing to help reduce the spread of illness and patient influx at healthcare centers, so we are canceling our Senior Speaker Series event, Tai Chi for Strength, Balance and Stress Relief on Thursday, April 16, 2020. We will keep you posted on our plans for our next event on June 18, 2020, “What Your Pharmacist Wishes You Knew About Over the Counter Medications” with Laura Grothe, PharmD, BCNSP.

If you are ill, we highly recommend that you stay at home, avoid large crowds and limit visitors. Please closely monitor yourself and loved ones for symptoms of COVID-19, which include a fever of greater than 100.4F, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing. If you are concerned that you have been infected, contact your personal medical provider and VNA caregiver for assistance with the next steps.

In everything VNA does, we’re guided by our mission that offers peace of mind, quality of life and independence to every patient we serve. Each of us has a role in addressing this unprecedented health issue, and VNA is honored to serve you and our community.

Sincerely,

James C. Summerfelt
President and CEO
